Minnesota administers a number of home- and community-based funding pathways. Some of them can, in some circumstances, allow a family member to be paid for care they already provide. Which pathway could apply — if any — depends on the care recipient's situation, their coverage, the level of care an official assessment records, and the rules in force at the time you apply.

Official assessment and approval decide the outcome

No private company can approve you, confirm that you meet the requirements, or set what you would be paid. Those determinations belong to your county, the state, your tribal nation where applicable, and — where care is delivered through managed care — your health plan. An official assessment is the step that establishes level of care. Everything downstream follows from it.
